About Inside Studio 54

Inside Studio 54

A Story of Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n’ Roll by Former Studio 54 Owner

A Pocket of Time

Studio 54 is the story of a generation as seen from the perspective of Mark Fleischman, a nice Jewish boy whose adventures take him from Harlem nightclubs as a teen to the Copacabana, Peppermint Lounge, Fillmore East and finally to Studio 54, which he bought from Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager in their prison cell and reopened in 1981. Along the way, he tells erotic stories of his sexual encounters as he moves from alcohol, to psychedelics, to coke and angel dust. He also tells a tender love story about the one woman who finally saves him and sends him into rehab. Mark comes of age in the pocket of time between the pill and AIDS, and his journey reflects the ever darkening landscape of increased decadence, climaxing in his sharing girls with Rick James and pulling a gun on Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell as they come in to take over his hotel. Inside Studio 54 also serves as a tribute to and history of the music and nightlife of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. It contains some of the best erotica since Harold Robbins. A fun tale about an optimistic guy, a Cornell Hotel School graduate and Naval Officer, who dives recklessly into the adventure of his day as the 60’s unfolds. It will keep readers turning the page to see what happens next.

Mark understands how to create magical environments. It was a great thrill for me to participate in those environments as a DJ. Simply magical and beyond words.
